Lets' blog about food!

I guess we haven't blogged about food yet. I promised to blog about Greek food, because people in Japan don't know very much about it. I always try to eat Greek food whenever I go overseas. It's popular not only in the United States, but in European countries as well.

Greek food is very similar to other cuisines from the eastern Mediterranean Sea, for example, Turkish, Lebanese, and Egyptian. Falafel sandwiches are a common snack food from the area. In Los Angeles there are many falafel stands and restaurants that say "Lebanese food" or "Egyptian food" or "Israeli food" etc. but they all have the same cuisine. It is cheap, fast, healthy, vegetarian and tasty. They are made from ground bean patties fried and put into pita (pocket) bread. I highly recommend falafel over hamburgers if you visit the United States. Here's a picture of a falafel sandwich.

Most falafel stands are just like hamburger stands, though, the American equivalent of a soba stand, where you can get a fast quick meal. I hesitate to call most of them restaurants. Greek restaurants are sometimes just diners, but many of them are very high class, expensive establishments with floor shows. You might want to make reservations if you go to a high class Greek restaurant.

Greek food uses lots of lamb, eggplants, black olives, squid, feta cheese and many other ingredients I really like to eat. One of the most famous Greek dishes is moussaka. It is a kind of casserole made of ground lamb mixed with potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, spices and other ingredients. I often recommend it to friends who haven't tried Greek food before. Here is a picture of moussaka.

Other famous Greek foods that I like include lemon soup, Greek salad, stuffed grape leaves, gyros, souvlaki, and baklava, a dessert.

Someday I want to go to Greece and eat real Greek food there. In the meantime, here are some websites about Greek food for you to explore. If you are interested at all, try some Greek food when you go to Europe or America. You'll easily find it because it's very popular. Chicago is especially famous for Greek restaurants because there are many Greek Americans there.

Pictures of "Tanbo Art"

I'm so sorry I'm too late for writing blog last week.(TT)

By the way, do you know these?
These are called "Tanbo Art."
These images are made of 4 kinds of rice and they are in Inakadate village next to Hirosaki city.
Inakadate started making "Tanbo Art" for village revitalization.(in Japanese, "Mura-Okoshi")
I took these pictures in August,so I think they have been harvested. We will be able to see the new "Tanbo Art" next year. Bye!
