While you were having the school festival, I was in Beijing for the Fulbright Association annual conference.
This was the first time I've ever been to one of these Fulbright conferences, even though I'm a lifetime member. It was even better than I expected. I met Fulbrighters from all over the world. The talks were always stimulating and I was always busy learning new things, meeting new people and enjoying myself doing so. I even ran into an old friend from my graduate school days at UCLA, who was working in China as an Africanist. The UCLA African Studies program always sends a lot of people on Fulbrights.
This is the audience for one of the panels.
Most of the larger panels were held in a large hotel ballroom that had excellent acoustics. They held a formal dinner for us there, too, but I don't think I have any pictures. The picture below is of one of the stage of the same panel.
They also had some excellent banquets for us. Here are some of the people from my table.
The man on the right is journalist James Fallows who spoke to the gathering about China.
Finally the Ambassador of Luxembourg held a reception for us at the embassy. The ambassador is a former Fulbright scholar also.
Well, I was going to show you some photos I took at the universities in Beijing, and of the Forbidden City when I went there, but this is already longer than I expected it to be. I better quit here and post more later.
