The country I want to visit is England.

The reason is there is "The Sherlock Holmes Museum" in London.

I wrote I like Sherlock Holmes in self-introduction before.

I have been wanting to visit the place 221b Baker Steet in London, where is said he lived.

The museum is located the place and it shows his study or his personal belongings.

I surely go there someday because the place is the most famous address in the world!

A place I'd like to visit

I'd like to go to Costarica if I had a chance.
I hear about Costarica from my English teacher when I was a high school student. She has been traveled Costarica.

Costarica is in Central America.I hear it's famous for tropical rain forest and good beaches. We can also see many species of animals, fishes and plants there.
I want to go and take pictures.
That'all.Thank you.

Apples

I'm sorry,I'm late for writing blog last week.

By the way,Do you like eating apples? I like it very much!
We harvest apples from late autumn to early winter in Hirosaki.
Last Sunday,my mother got some apples from her friend.I cooked apple pie and apple jam with my mother. It was delicious. If you have some apples ,how about cooking apple dishes?

My travel suggestion

I've been to Africa a lot and even lived there. Kenya is a great tourist destination, and the game parks there attract (you should pardon the phrase) the lion's share of tourism in Africa. And Kenya is a lovely country, with beautiful beaches, snow capped mountains, modern (and old, traditional) cities, and beautiful scenic countryside. You couldn't go wrong with a Kenyan vacation. Here's the University of Nairobi:

Here's downtown Nairobi:

Here's inside the University campus:

But I have to admit that my usual suggestion for first time visitors to Africa is Ghana. It's not as overrun with tourists as Kenya, but it still has most of the things that people go to Africa for, including some of the friendliest people in the friendliest country. Here's the library clock tower at the University of Ghana, Legon:

Here's the library itself, with an obvious Asian influence:

Here's the signboard for the Noguchi Centre. I think you know about the man on the ¥1000 note, and his connection to medical research in Ghana.

This is my M.A. advisor, Merrick Posnansky, who lived in Ghana for many years and who took us to Africa for research:

This is Elmina, famous as the site of the first European castle on what was later called the Gold Coast, now Ghana. The name means "the mine" in Portuguese, and it's where the Portuguese bought their gold.

Here are some pictures of Ghanaian friends.

And I don't even have time to mention the country I know best, Nigeria. Maybe later.

Japanese history

I went to Okinawa for a high school trip. There is Himeyurinotou in Okinawa. I hope that you have seen Himeyurinotou or Genbakudome and listened to peaple telling about suffering of the war. I saw Himeyurinotou. But I felt sad not when I saw Himeyuri but when I saw Heiwanoisizue.

On the other hand, there are many delicious food in Okinawa. Specially, I like tinsukou very much!

It was delicious!

I ate "marron soft ice cream" when I went to the Sannaimaruyama in September.
Not only it tastes marron, but also it looks like a "mont blanc."
It was so hot that I had to eat it quickly so as not to melt.
I would like to eat the soft ice cream one more time...

Lets' blog about food!

I guess we haven't blogged about food yet. I promised to blog about Greek food, because people in Japan don't know very much about it. I always try to eat Greek food whenever I go overseas. It's popular not only in the United States, but in European countries as well.

Greek food is very similar to other cuisines from the eastern Mediterranean Sea, for example, Turkish, Lebanese, and Egyptian. Falafel sandwiches are a common snack food from the area. In Los Angeles there are many falafel stands and restaurants that say "Lebanese food" or "Egyptian food" or "Israeli food" etc. but they all have the same cuisine. It is cheap, fast, healthy, vegetarian and tasty. They are made from ground bean patties fried and put into pita (pocket) bread. I highly recommend falafel over hamburgers if you visit the United States. Here's a picture of a falafel sandwich.

Most falafel stands are just like hamburger stands, though, the American equivalent of a soba stand, where you can get a fast quick meal. I hesitate to call most of them restaurants. Greek restaurants are sometimes just diners, but many of them are very high class, expensive establishments with floor shows. You might want to make reservations if you go to a high class Greek restaurant.

Greek food uses lots of lamb, eggplants, black olives, squid, feta cheese and many other ingredients I really like to eat. One of the most famous Greek dishes is moussaka. It is a kind of casserole made of ground lamb mixed with potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, spices and other ingredients. I often recommend it to friends who haven't tried Greek food before. Here is a picture of moussaka.

Other famous Greek foods that I like include lemon soup, Greek salad, stuffed grape leaves, gyros, souvlaki, and baklava, a dessert.

Someday I want to go to Greece and eat real Greek food there. In the meantime, here are some websites about Greek food for you to explore. If you are interested at all, try some Greek food when you go to Europe or America. You'll easily find it because it's very popular. Chicago is especially famous for Greek restaurants because there are many Greek Americans there.

My memories in summer vacation!

In this summer vacation, I had unforgettable experience.

My hometown has a festival in every September and I joined it for the first time.

It was very exciting! In the festival, a float (called "DASHI") runs around the town.

Because I joined as a drummer of a big drum, I could ride on the float.

To beat a drum was really hard and I got tired, but I really enjoyed our festival!

If you have a chance to come my hometown, see our festival and enjoy it!

It is getting colder and colder.I can't put up with my appetite as autumn deepens into winter! So I will tell you what I have ate this weekend in this blog.

This is a roll of cabbage stuffes with minced meat.I made it for oneself on Friday.I had a party with my friends in my house. This dish was popular among them.

This is a rich ice cream!!Very delicious!!My friend treated me it on Saturday.I was very happy. This tastes green tea.I want to eat it again.

Lastly, this is a Kiritanpo,a local specialty Akita.I went back to my home in Akita on Sunday and ate it.I love it very much! It's very very delicious!!I was so happy.
As I have said,I did nothing but eat this weekend!!I gained weight this autumn…

My Happy Weekend

I belong to paraglider circle.
Every weekend I enjoy paragliding in Owani. It is very exciting!!! And now leaves of autumn are beautiful.
It is difficult to operate a paraglider. But it is very fun! If I fly with paraglider from the high place, I can see beautiful sceneries which are Hirosaki city, Mt.Iwaki and so on.
But I am not so good at paragliding to fly from high place... Since I fly from low place. But sceneries does not change and they are beautiful.

This summer we gone to Tottori dune and enjoyed sightseeing and eating...of course paragliding too.

The sand was too hot to walk. The sun light was too strong to open my eyes. These things are also precious memories.

Our circle does not only paraglide but also do various things.

In July we climbed Mt.Iwaki. At that time, the snow still remained on the mountain.

It is very missed.

I spend my holiday like this.

That is my holiday are interesting!

That is all.

My trip to Beijing

While you were having the school festival, I was in Beijing for the Fulbright Association annual conference.

This was the first time I've ever been to one of these Fulbright conferences, even though I'm a lifetime member. It was even better than I expected. I met Fulbrighters from all over the world. The talks were always stimulating and I was always busy learning new things, meeting new people and enjoying myself doing so. I even ran into an old friend from my graduate school days at UCLA, who was working in China as an Africanist. The UCLA African Studies program always sends a lot of people on Fulbrights.

This is the audience for one of the panels.
Most of the larger panels were held in a large hotel ballroom that had excellent acoustics. They held a formal dinner for us there, too, but I don't think I have any pictures. The picture below is of one of the stage of the same panel.

They also had some excellent banquets for us. Here are some of the people from my table.

The man on the right is journalist James Fallows who spoke to the gathering about China.

Finally the Ambassador of Luxembourg held a reception for us at the embassy. The ambassador is a former Fulbright scholar also.

Well, I was going to show you some photos I took at the universities in Beijing, and of the Forbidden City when I went there, but this is already longer than I expected it to be. I better quit here and post more later.
