Runaway jury

I thought that I hadn't had hard time when I heard such faster speed.
I could scarcely understand how the story was developed. It was unclear for me the reason the man was researced, though it may be the most important... And another thing what I could guess was that he has leadership.
I have a question about American judges such as What other forces do they have? Are they just like chairmans?

Judges in the US have a lot of power. They can sentence someone to jail for "contempt of court" if they don't like what they are doing. They decide what evidence can be presented and what witnesses can be heard, and they can throw a case out of court before it ever goes to a jury.
