I'm sorry I couldn't left comments for so long.
Today,I attended Bonenkai and had a great time with you. Unfortunately, some people couldn't attend because they have another plan.
Incidentally, 8 people are attended(Professor Philips and his seminar student, hiroyuki, jun, masashi, hirono, mika and I).
We had a lively conversation and I enjoyed it very much.

Professor Philips, thank you so much for the dinner you treated us today!!

Winter vacation begins tomorrow. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Go to abroad

Today's presentations were very interesting to me.
Through the class, I want to go abroad and pay attention to Lady First.
I want to go Germany for FIFA World Cup 2006. Language is different, but English is World Langage, so there is no problem maybe.
On Lady First,the presentation shot the point, but my friend had said "It looks to depend on male". How about her opinion? Some want it, some dislike.
Female is difficult to male. Of course opposite.

I love ....

I love whiskey and sake. These alcoholic beverages on the picture are very, very, very good! Of course, I have this whiskey with rock. It is the happiest moment for me. I recomend them for you!

In much snow, how do you live ? It's hard for me to ride bicycle.
Do you play any winter sports ? I'm from Hachinohe, so I did skate in childhood.
But I prefer snowboard to skate. On TV program, snowboarders jump high and make fantastic trick. I wish I could jump like them...

As if I were in the winter vacation.

Friday,I with 5 only guys went to Bowling till 2:00 pm.
Saturday,my girlfriend and I went to ajigasawa for snowboarding.
After that participated in bonenkai(English club)
And today,I spent in playing CP all daytime.

Hi! This is Miyuki writing. Today I have time to write this blog. Because I missed the 1st period. I come to school by car from Goshogawara city. It takes about 1 hour in morning. But now we have snow, so it takes more time. Today I leave my home as usual. So I wasn't in time for 1st period... I'll try to get up more earlier from tomorrow!!

Recently, I'm very busy. I join brass band club in this university. December 18 is our club's 12th regular concert♪ So we practice playing the instrument very hard for it. We'll play many music at the concert. It has three stages. We play some music maybe you don't know in the 1st and 2nd stage. But 3rd stage is Pop stage, so there'll be many music you know. For example Disney, Christmas and Pirates of the Caribbean songs. This concert be held at Hirosaki civic hall. It opens at PM2:00 and starts at PM2:30. And entrance fee is 500 yen. Please come to hear our concert if you have time.I have two ticket now. If you want to come, I'll give you it free.

It's warm recently, that's good to me. Do you check the tree illuminiation? That's fatasy, I like the blue reindeer.
Today's evening, I'm going to play BOWLING. The number of player is over 25!!My play style is unique, so the score is inistability. Sometimes I scored 0ver 190, sometimes under 80. Score isn't important, the atmosphere we enjoy is good. I'll sweep off the pins to score over 200!! maybe....

About ‘High Noon’

I enjoyed　‘High Noon’. I was impressed by the scene whitch he throw his badge away　the most. How did he feel when he did that? Maybe he had no fondness for that town because he lost everything-friendships,trust and so on. He left there without talking any one and his face was cold. At Novenber 3rd, my seminer (Mr Kimura) and Mｒ & Mrs Okuno's seminer held meeting.
Throw away the contents of meeting, we went drinking and karaoke after the meeting.
I had been far to singing for months, I couldn't take good tune. But I felt fun a lot.
Finaly, Mr Kimura has cool and sweet voice.

What do you think about the movie 'High Noon'?

In the movie 'High Noon' nobody help hero except heroine. But when I watched this movie, I sympathized with the coward audience. If something trouble had happed like this story, I would run away. Anyway I can't criticize those people abandoned Gary Cooper.

my girlfriend

This is my car, "delsol". "Delsol" means "sun" in English. I like her very much though there are only two seats and very narrow. I think she is a rare car in Hirosaki because she was made by Honda more than ten years ago. However, she produces about 200hp. She is a high-powered car even now.
I bought this car 3 years ago in a package purchase...so I had no money then. I didn't eat any foods for a week. I became malnourished and broke down for some days. I was a reckless man.
Now, my hobby is driving. Shall we go for a drive with me? Wow! OF COURSE, ONLY YOU because there is only one seat in my car. If you have a driver's license, you should buy a car, of course, with your money!

last Monday,I went to send-off party of my part-time job's. I quitted the job because of going abroad.so,staff gave me flowers and message card.that moved me to tears.this picture is that flowers.

BTW,do you know the language of flowers?flower has many meanings.for example,this pink rose means 'beautiful girl,elegance,grace'.is funny isn't it?:) red rose means 'passion,love,i love u,fidelity,beauty,and so on'.I recommend you to give red rose for your girlfriend or...at Christmas day (*^^*)

COLD!COLD!COLD!!

Now it's getting colder and colder.This is a big problem for me.So,today, I'll explain about it.
I belong to the KENDO club,you know. We practice in the practice holl at this university.The problem is there are no heating system!For the first time I knew it,I couldn't believe it. In spite of snow falling, why aren't there any heaters? We practice kendo with bare feet,of course.That's why we hurt the bottom of our foot every time.Sometimes when it is severe cold,we lose felling of my foot.

I wish it would be warm as early as possible.This my wish is prematurity,isn't this?

In today's class, I knew all student have a plan that how English use in the future. In my case I don't have a plan. Actually I had a plan about English in the first term. I enjoyed the Hirodai Festival.
My sircle (COSMO) had a high popularity among children.

We made some quizes about stars, and if visitors chose correct answers, we gave a present.
The present was a sidereal postcard. It was very cute, so everyone worked hard to answer.

In the Hirodai Festival, I think that not only us but also everyone enjoyed very much.

How was your school festival holiday?

I enjoyed school festival with my friends.
I didn't participate for any booth(shop,exibition etc..) but,I went there and watched and saw many things and people. It's very fun for us. But,Unfortunately,weather was so bad. terrible. It's a pity for me.

And please let me back to last ET's topic. I could catch little English words of the movie. But, pictures of it helped me to understand the story. In last class, I was taught that the story resembles 'Bible', then I was very surprised and thought I was taught important thing. I understood 'Bible' has an important place in American culture.

This is my first writing.I'm miyuki.
I could enjoy watching E.T yesterday.I like E.T because his big eyes are very cute！ Besides his walking and voice are also very cute and funny. I haven't watched the whole movie. So I want to watch the continuation of it.I enjoyed the movie,but I hardly understand what the characters in the movie said. I could catch only easy English. So I decided to watch non-subtitle movie on DVD. But I don't have DVD player. First I have to buy DVD player.

Many students last semester had trouble joining the blog. It seems that when you click the link in AL-mail on student computers Netscape 4 pops up for some reason. I just got a student on the blog, but Netscape, even Netscape 7, wouldn't work. We got the Opera browser up, and pasted the link into the browser, and then she was able to log on.

In short, if clicking the link just gives you an error message, try another browser, for example Opera, copy the link from the e-mail, paste the link into the browser, and try that. If that doesn't work, e-mail me and I'll see waht I can do.

Today will be the last ⅢB class... In this class, I learned that we must not be afraid of making mistakes. I'm sure that if I'm not be afraid of making mistakes, and use English positively, I can improve English skill! I like to study English, but I'm not good at especially writing and speaking, so I spent a lot of time writing essay. I think it is tight to see the movie without the title.I felt an English listening ability was insufficient strongly.

At first,I was surprised at this class.Because,this class use only English.Since I'm not good at English and I'm not able to listen English very much,it was very hard for me to understand what teacher said.

Good bye IIIB English class!

It is hard for me to speak and hear only English in the class. Through this class, I realize that I can't say well what I want to say in English. It is irritating. And I have to be more positive to speak English. I need more courage not to be afraid of failure. I have learned English for six years so I should be able to use English!
I think the blog is good. Though we had difficulty to sign in the blog but once we did, we can write in it easily and read rest of the class' contributions. Since I didn't know what a blog is, this experience is good for me.

Speaking simply, this class had fairly high difficulty and to catch up with everyone was hard for me. But, the other hand, it was also a precious experience. I think this class was much harder than I thought. For one thing, the writing assignment was quite difficult for me. Secondly, the blog required really long time because I could not enter this site inspite of great efforts. But I think my English writing skills has certainly developed thanks to hard homeworks. And the only thing Iwant to say is that e-mail is better than blog. For, blog is too difficult for people to enter who are not accustomed to doing PC. E-mail is easier to do, and the purpose of blog and e-mail is almost same. So I think using E-mail is better.

I think there are mainly three ways to learn English. Those are speaking, listenning, and writing. Among these ways, I think listening and writing are quite easy to do, but speaking is quite difficult to do by oneself. Speaking needs partners, positivities, and courages not to fear mistakes. And experiences are indispensable to develope good speaking skills . So, I recommend that English teachers give more time for students to present their speech to other people in English. This will greatly raise our English speaking skills.

I am verry sorry but recently I did not study English outside of school lessons. Pingpong is the most exiting sport in the world for me. I think everybody may think of people who are devoted in pingpong as guys who are not good at sports and dismal. But that is entirelly wrong. About English IIIB class

I think this class was hard for me. This class was composed of almost student in major of medicine. Everyone is superior! I couldn't have confidence anytime. And contents of this class was quite different from that in high school. I felt sad again and again not to be able to speak English fluently. I couldn't hide my embarrassment. But the class was full of useful information about English writting. I felt this point is beneficial for me. I think I progress my English writting skill!

After this class, I want to keep on studying English.Obviously, English is necessary not only in international field but also even in Japanese society.There are a lot of ways to learn English aroud me. For instance, I can read English book in the library or bookstore. I can watch movie in English. (I can't understand "Lost in Space."...but I will be able to do it!) We're not perfect in all things, but we can be happy with everything we do...

Although I have been studying English for more than 10 years, this English IIIB class is the first complete English writing class in my life. I have learned a lot about writing techniques and I have got many ideas for writing good article or essay.
Previously, even I have written many reports and essays in English, I did not really know how to write them correctly. But now, I know how to write good English and where I should start writing from, however I still need more practices. (>_<). I hope I will be able to write English better and better.
The class blog is another valuable equipment, and I do like it very much. It helped me to continue using English during the week outside the class. It enhanced the chance for me to think, write, and even read more English. And I think it is very useful for everyone in this class, too. Additionally, the group assignment may be a good way to let students know each other more.
In short, I have learned a lot about writing English and I am glad to join in this class with everybody. Thank you, Professor Philips, for your kind helps and being patient teaching us. And Good luck for all classmates for your furthering English study!!(^_^)/

Thanks to English class, I learned speaking and listening skills,Though I'm not good at speaking English. I'm going to take aEnglish4 class to study English.And I want to study physical therapy in U.S.A in the future.

Improving English

One way to improve English is still, I think, listening to the foreign musics.
It helps us understand how to pronounce and, a nuance of, English.
listening to the UK and the USA musics will enable you to tell British English from American English.

Another way to polish English is to watch movies, of course.
While watching a film with Japanese subtitles,
simultaneosly translate it in your brains.
It is possible that you cannot catch any word.
I couldn't do it in "Lost In Space"．．．

At first, I was confused with the way of this class that people don't speak Japanese but English. It is difficult for me to speak in English and to listen to what teacher said in English. But now, I can listen English a little. I think my English is improved.

The last assignment

Though it was hard to write an essay in English, this class was exciting for me. I liked the way that the classes were all done by English. I think that if we really want to learn English we need to go abroad for a while without any Japanese friends. It will force us to speak in English because there is no Japanese to speak to.
I found an interesting TV program in NHK. It's a program that they tell us some news in the world, but what differs from other programs is that they tell us the same news four times. First they have English subtitles to the news. Second there is Japanese subtitles. And then English subtitles again. And at last there is no subtitles on the screen. I thought that this program is good to skill up our listening ability to watch some English movies without any subtitles. So I'm going to watch it from next time.

The movie's literary genealogy

I forgot to explain why the movie family were the "Robinsons".

Does anyone know about "Robinson Crusoe" by Daniel Defoe? It was published in 1719.

To make a long story short, Robinson Crusoe was followed by Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss. That was followed by the science fiction series Space Family Robinson which was followed by the TV series Lost in Space.

Hollywood has been making a lot of films based on TV shows that baby boomers (e.g. me) remember from when we were young. Bewitched is the latest, but Lost in Space is typical, even to the extent of having members of the original TV cast play cameo roles in the film version.

I like 'The Lord Of The Rings' very much. This movie is long and has many characters so at first, it was hard for me to understand the story. But the scale is marvelous and some SFX makes me laugh. Now, I like it !

The story is that Forrest Gump, who is a little feeble-minded but is pure-hearted, lives an evenful life.

I don't go to the movies so often. But I like movies very much.

I also like "Dr.Dolittle". Because I like animals and comedy.

I love the movie 'Drumline'. It is such a high-energy movie, the drumming and the marching are so excellent. The final drum battle is very exciting and it is also my favorite performance in this movie.

I really like movies. The otherday, I went to the cinema and watched "War of the world". But I did not like it too much. I could not understand that story.
One of my favorite movie is "A.I.". The movie really moved me to tears! The early stage of the story is sad, but I think the story has a happy ending.

Addams Family

There are many films I like and one of them is the "Addams Family Values". There's no such good reasons for that , but thinking of reasons I had already seen Addams Family in "Scoobie doo" on TV so the characters were familiar to me. To mention one more reason the actors fit the model of the characters. Especially Angelica Huston fits the role of a mother who seems like a witch.

films: What do you like?

I notice some of the people are putting photos from movies on the blog, and I know that most people like movies. I myself think film is the most important art form of the 20th century, maybe of the 21st century, too.

This week, let's talk about movies on the class blog. What kind of movies do you like? Why? I know many Japanese, especially men, seem to like action movies, maybe because the English is not very difficult. Many Hollywood action movies lose money in the States, so they depend on the Japanese market to make a profit.

My favorite action movie is The Last Action Hero by Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's sort of a satire of action movies.

I mentioned today that one of my favorite directors is Robert Altman. Another of my famous directors is Akira Kurosawa. His movie "The Seven Samurai" was voted one of the top action movies at the Internet Movie Database.

I like Shakespeare on film, too. I think if Shakespeare were alive today he would write for Hollywood. As you can probably guess, I especially like Kurosawa's two Shakespeare movies, "Throne of Blood" (Macbeth) and "Ran" (King Lear).

English Problem

I have a lot of problems in studying English.
For example,I can't express what I think and write sentences in English well.
Because I am lacking of vocabulary .
So I have to study vocabulary and practice writting sentences.

As Thai is my first language, therefore when I am going to speak in English my problem is I always take time to think in Thai first and then translate into English. This is the reason why my English is not fluently as much as I would like to be. One more thing is about the grammar. I think my grammar is quite poor and this causes my writing not so good as well.

My problem with learning English

I can read English ,but I am poor at listining and writing.
So my English is not practical.

A Problem of lerning English is speaking.
We can speak much less than read.
This is because we didn't lern speaking.
We only lerned reading and easy writing.

The problem of learning English in Japan

In high school in japan, we often study speaking English rather than writing it. That's because we Japanese are good at writing or reading , but we are not good at speaking and listening. Also, it is very different between japanese grammer and English grammer. For example, Jpanese structure is S O V ,S C V, and so on. On the other hand, English structure is S V O, S V C, S V O C・・・.So it is difficult for us to learn English a little.

Learning English

I think although we (including me, of course) , the Japanese,
are good at reading and writing English,
we aren't at speaking and listening it.
That's because the Japanese people traditionally translated
the documents of the West (Euroe and America)
and widened their knowledge.
There, they don't need the skills of speaking and listening and
we come to be afraid of making mistakes(grammer,pronunciation,etc).
So, now, we need to change the stale and passive traditions.
We have to study not only English but also Japanese itself.

I have a lot of problems with English.
Especially, my listening ability is very poor.
So, I cannot catch what they say in English well,
and I cannot answer them in English well.

My English problem is grammar and poor vocabulary. That’s why, I can’t write sentences but simple ones.Whenever I write sentences in English, I need to look up words and usage in a dictionary. So it takes much time...

My problems with English

The weakest point of my English is to use English correctly. My grammar is still bad and it's getting worse these days. So it is difficult for me to correct the grammar of the draft which I wrote for homework by myself. Also I get confused to decide which preposision to use in writing a phrase in English. As it differs from Japanese it's not good enough just to translate from Japanese to English.

My problem of learning English

I have studied English since I entered junior-high.
6 years have passed, But I can't speak English well yet.
I can read and write it a little, but I can't speak it at all!!
Were there some ploblems in my studying English?

I sometimes contact with English on television at night. When brushing my teeth clean and watching television, I sometimes see a television program of English conversation. Native speakers appear on almost all of the programs. Most of the plograms are easy, but I occasionally see difficult one. It is so interesting for me.

Happiness is found along the way, not the end of the road!!

Well, I am a foreign student here, so I use English everyday to communicate with my friends and teachers. Sometimes, my foreign friends who are native English speakers could not understand my English. But I do not care, I just try to use English as much as possible. And Thank God!! My friends are very kind because they try to understand what I say and they help me to correct my English, too. I think my English is improved a lot more than before because of this! Moreover, I have to write reports and present my own research in English (because I am not good at Japanese presentation (^_^;)). In addition, I am a music addicted person. I always listen to the music. Not only while I am reading books, doing homework, doing experiments in laboratory, but also when I am riding a bicycle to any place.

I contact with English on watching American movie. I can’t understand the story unless I read the Japanese subtitles, but I can hear some words. That makes me happy. In theater, we can read Japanese subtitles, but on TV, we are not given Japanese if you want to hear actor’s real voice in English. I don’t like dubbing voice in Japanese so I often watch movies in English. I hope it improves my English skill.

I take 3 classes about English.
They are "English IIIA", "EnglishIIIB", and "ComunicationIA."
So I have contact with English in "comunicationIA" class except EnglishIIIB. I want to get either elementary school teacher's license or English teacher's. The class is necessary to get a English teacher's license.

And, I used to play "online game."
At the place, there are not only Japanese but also many foreignors. I talked with Amercan, British, Korean, Chinese, Germany, and so on in English. I thought English is a widely-used language. 　I don't play the game now, but I can say it was a good experience in terms of English.

I usually don’t contact with English except class.
But these days, I intend to read some books written in English.
Because I think my ability of English is poor, and I like reading novels.
And when I can use the Internet at my apartment, I will write in this blog more often.

I have a friend in Canada and Singapore so I write letters to them. Also I like to watch foreign films and I try not to see the Japaneses subtitles. Recently I began to watch the abc news. When I first saw that program I couldn't understand what the newscasters were saying, but it's becoming easier to listen little by little. Nothing can be done without practice!

I have contact with English on the Internet in my room on Sunday.
I like the foreign musics. Sometimes I access my favorite artist's web site.
On the web, all things (biography, lyrics, faq,etc) are written in English, of course.
So, I willy-nilly have to contact with English if I'd like to see those things.
Although the lyrics of the songs are written in English,
they are often hard to grasp.
Therefore, I listen to the music not to undestand the lyrics
but to get used to English, and how to speak and pronounce it.
That is impossible only when listening to the Japanese ones, I think.

Where is English?

Let's all post where and when we have contact with English outside of class! Class is not the only place to learn English these days, so I think we should share with each other our contact with English, whether in letters, on the Internet, on television, etc.

What do you do over the next week to learn English outside of class? One hour and a half once a week is not enough to learn English, so this is the place to share with others how you practice English (listening, reading, writing or speaking) elsewhere.

My dog

Hello, everyone.
Today, I will talk about my dog.
My family keeps a dog.
The dog is female and brown spotted white dog.
She is small and lives indoor.
We love her very much. Especially, my father cherishes her.
I live in Hirosaki alone, so I miss her very much.
I will go home to see her on this summer vacation.
She always sleeps recently because she is a little old.
So I worry about her health.

Do you like Ekiben?

Whenever I ride a limited express, I am looking forward to eat Ekiben. Even Ekiben fair excite me.
My favorite Ekiben is one that I ate on Tsugaru express when I came to Hirosaki for the entrance exam. I forgot the name but it is oshizushi which is a kind of sushi with salmon or something, probably made in Hachinohe and awarded the prime minister prize. It was too big for me but delicious!
Another favorite is one of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka prefecture. It was hitsumabusi which is rice mixed with eel. Hamamatsu is famous for eel and Lake Hamana.
Enjoying trip makes Ekiben delicious. I would like to go to many places and eat many other delicious Ekiben.

Today I went to a book shop to buy a book about TOEFL and I found that TOEFL was much more difficult than I thought. I wanted to take the test in June, but it seems impossible to get a high score in a month. So I'll try next time. The worst problem about the test was that I can't write an essay in a short time. And also my verbal skills are too poor. The lack of vocabulary are killing me.

My dream

I have a dream★

In the near future I'd like to speak English fluently and make many foreign friends. Also I want to go on a trip without any language problems. Until quite recently I was afraid of making mistakes in learning English, but Professor Phillip's words encouraged me that we must make mistakes if we want to be good at other languages. Now I'm enjoying this class very much. It's a dream of me to be a doctor in the States one day.
